If you are going to backpack around Australia, you have to spend some time in Sydney.
It is a bustling eclectic mix of cultures, surrounding the most beautiful harbour in the world.

Unfortunately the cost of living in Sydney is expensive, as are most metro areas in the world. So if you want to supplement your living costs here are some suggestions:

There is a lot of money in the construction industry in Sydney, so there is a lot of work. Tradesman are always looking for tradesmen assistants, you do not need any qualifications for this, you just need a good work ethic and to be relatively fit. One method to obtain an employer is to go on trade directory websites, and contact tradesmen directly. Alternatively, if you want to work in a specific trade then look for them directly, eg. lighting maintenance Sydney, window cleaning Sydney or gutter cleaning Sydney. To work onsite you need a green card which can be easily obtained in a one day course. Working as a tradesman assistant will give your a lot more money that working in the hospitality industry, so it is well worth the effort.
When you submit a resume to a tradesman, make sure that you highlight your physical strengths, your problem solving abilities and your work ethic. These are the most important things that they will be looking for.
