If you are going to be on a student visa while in Australia it is important that you know how much you are allowed to work and what restrictions you are under. There is a very good FAQ from the immigration department here.

The basic points are that if you are on a student visa then once semester starts, you are allowed to work 20 hours a week. It is vitally important that you do not work over 20 hours, as your student visa can be cancelled. Arrange with your employer to use employee time clocks to record your time. This will give you a record that you can present to the immigration department, if a problem arrises. During holidays and study breaks you are allowed to work full time, but remember you are only allowed 20 hours a week during semester.

Good suggestion. If you also happened to work online in the past, employers use this employee time tracker to monitor the work hours and computer activity of their employees.

I know a number of working students and also employers who have used that system. It worked well for us especially that in these cases, we need something to help reduce the distractions we experience everyday and more importantly something that would help us increase our productivity.
